Apr 13, 2009 - New OT Practice Act Passes!
HB 2309 as amended by the Senate has passed both houses! After a lot of hard work by member of WVBOT and WVOTA a new modern licensure passed both houses at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday April 11th, the last day of the regular session. This bill is an important update of the practice act. All members are encouraged to keep their eyes and ears open for more information from WVBOT for information on how this bill will affect practice and when it's provisions will be in effect. WVOTA would like to thank all of the members who participated in this grass roots effort to improve practice and protect consumers. The phone calls and e-mails were essential in keeping this bill in the forefront of a busy legislative agenda. Mary Hager and Debbie Shamblin also deserve our greatest gratitiude. They spent a lot of their personal time including most of the day on Saturday at the capital talking to Senators, Delegates, Committee Lawyers, Legislative Assistants, and Administrative Assistants to keep this bill alive. Additional recognition should be noted for the members of WVBOT who worked hard to craft a bill that represented modern OT practice and should be good enough to last another 30 years. Marty Douglas also took time off from his work to represent OT at all of the hearings regarding this bill. Thanks again to all who participated in this process and supported our efforts.
